Along the way he has also completed the Italian Wine Scholar and French Wine Scholar programs (Wine Scholar Guild), the Spanish Wine Expert course, along with master level courses in Bordeaux, Burgundy, Alsace, Loire Valley, Rhone Valley, Champagne, and Rioja, all with honors. His wine studies are not limited to Europe, however, and he has also successfully completed courses about wines from California, Oregon and Texas, Argentina, Chile, China, Georgia, South Africa, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.

He has been formally certified as an instructor for the WSET program, as well as by the Wine Scholar Guild. He teaches several wine courses at Daemen University and Finger Lakes Community College and gives wine presentations throughout the greater Rochester region. He is the owner of Know Wine, LLC (www.knowwine.net). In his spare time, he is a Professor at Univ. Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.

Tonight, you will travel back in time and place to taste some of the most ancient and indigenous grapes Tuscany has to offer. You will be amazed by the history and cultivation of five gorgeous wines and their presentation. Join us to celebrate the rich history, their evolution, and Piandaccoli’s continuous quest for perfection.

The estate began with the cultivation of vineyards by monks in 1100, before the phylloxera epidemic that hit Europe in the mid-nineteenth century wiped out the indigenous varietals present in Tuscany. Piandaccoli emerged in 1950 with the production of Chianti, but it was the vision of Dr. Giampaolo Bruni that set the stage for this incredible winery’s future. He collaborated with the University of Florence, using DNA testing on grapes found in the Medici tombs, to reintroduce autochthonous varietals prevalent during the Italian Renaissance.
All 20 hectares of the estate were replanted in 2004, and along with Sangiovese, Piandaccoli planted the indigenousvarietalsof Foglia Tonda, Pugnitello,Barsaglina, Colorino and Mammolo. This project produces truly unique and delicious wines with incredible history.
